Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton said that after the 2022 season, he began to better understand teams that are not fighting for the highest places.
The past season was unsuccessful for Hamilton and Mercedes - the team was able to win only one race, and the victory in it went not to Hamilton, but to George Russell.
I felt respect for all these teams that are trying to do everything the same (as the leaders), in the same way they strive to become better and fight for something. The way the team goes through hard times because they built a car that is not capable of fighting for victory. And actually to be a part of it, to be a witness to such a struggle is even cool.
I also like to follow how things are going at McLaren. I always try to see how they are doing, because that`s where I started my journey. And I always wished McLaren success, even though now they are our competitors.
There are days when things don`t go well for them, and I`m always sad about it, because, again, that`s where I started my career - I drove my first laps in a simulator, I got behind the wheel of a car for the first time, "said Hamilton.
