Soccer prediction Jacques Villeneuve on Mercedes strategy: The team should watch the broadcast, not sit on the computers

1997 Formula One champion Jacques Villeneuve gave advice to Mercedes strategists.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell failed to compete for victory at the Mexico City Grand Prix with Red Bull driver Max Verstappen. Villeneuve noted the unsuccessful decisions of the German team - according to the Canadian, Mercedes did not follow the speed of other fireballs well.

Despite the criticism and the words about the boring race, I was interested in watching it. Mercedes` strategy has been particularly exciting, although perhaps the team should watch more TV.

For many years Mercedes had the best car and the team never gave up. On Sunday, they acted conservatively, and Red Bull - aggressively. If you defend, your choice cannot decide the outcome of the race - victory is possible in case of opponents` mistakes.

In the first half of the race, it was clearly seen that the soft survives, despite full tanks and a green track. It has been known for 50 years that during the course of the Grand Prix, the cars become lighter and the grip on the track is better. So I was surprised by the transition to hard.

Lewis Hamilton still showed speed - why not? However, for George Russell, this is a big disappointment: he asked several times to stretch the segment in order to switch to software. He had nothing to lose. Everyone saw how Riccardo rode the medium - obviously, this was the right choice. Maybe Mercedes should watch the broadcast instead of sitting on all their computers.

Red Bull won the race starting on red-rimmed tyres, Verstappen was unhindered by the foul air and drove very confidently to victory despite the awkward looking car, " says Villeneuve.
